A Transformative Three-Week Visit with Peter Kelly Sensei in Denmark

From mid-June 2025, Peter Kelly Sensei—International Chief Instructor of Aikido Yuishinkai—visited Denmark for an intensive, nearly three-week stay. During this period, he led classes in Randers, attracting dedicated students from Aikido Yuishinkai Denmark as well as visiting practitioners from the UK, the Netherlands, and Italy.

Precision, Presence, and Practicality

The instruction delivered throughout the visit was of exceptional quality—both technically and energetically. Kelly Sensei brought a clarity of movement and depth of understanding that left a strong impression on all participants. His hands-on teaching gave students tangible skills to work on for the year ahead, providing a clear roadmap for continued development.

Classes focused on the deep application of Aikido principles through direct practice—each session emphasizing timing, connection, and effective technique grounded in softness and structure. The feeling of presence and intent in the dojo was undeniable and will shape the practice of all who attended long after the mats have cooled.

Marking Milestones: Dan Promotions

During the visit, two practitioners from Aikido Yuishinkai Denmark were promoted:

  • Peter Hoa was awarded 3rd Dan
  • Erik Krop was awarded 2nd Dan

These promotions acknowledge their sustained dedication and evolving understanding of Aikido. Both are now formally entrusted with helping to teach and support the transmission of what was learned during Kelly Sensei’s time in Denmark. Their advancement strengthens the local teaching base and ensures continuity in the spirit and technique of Yuishinkai Aikido.

A Personal Reflection

While Peter Kelly holds the formal title of International Chief Instructor, to me he is more than that—he is family. Knowing the personal and professional sacrifices he made to make this extended visit possible fills me with deep appreciation. His willingness to give so generously of his time, energy, and experience has left a lasting imprint on our community, and I speak for many when I say: thank you.

Looking Ahead to 2026

  • Students across Randers and Aarhus will continue to integrate the lessons learned into daily training.
  • Peter Hoa and Erik Krop will take on broader teaching roles, supporting consistency in instruction.
  • And most of all, the community will spend the next year refining, deepening, and preparing for Peter Kelly Sensei’s next visit in 2026.

In Closing

Peter Kelly Sensei’s 2025 visit was more than a seminar—it was a benchmark. It reaffirmed the values of clarity, humility, and depth that define Aikido Yuishinkai and inspired a renewed commitment to the path set out by Maruyama Sensei. We are grateful—and already looking forward to welcoming him back to Denmark.

Summer seminar
